Writers @ Jordan House

Writers @ Jordan House features writing workshops, seminars and readings dedicated to improving the community with a venue to support and recognize writers and the written word. Past events include
“Mean Mad Genes: Mental Illness and the Artistic Temperament”, a reading and panel discussion “Jazz & The Word”,  “Writers and Editors in Conversation”, and “Writers and Illustrators”. Open Mike nights have invited members of the community and writers workshop members to read poetry, fiction or non-fiction.
A poetry contest is part of this season’s program.

Participating writers and poets are of regional and national acclaim and have included Gordan Ball, Adrian Blevins, Carrie Brown, Patrick Donnelly, Leslie Wheeler, Van Jordan, Katherine Soniat, and Dabney Stuart, among many others.

Cynthia Atkins received an MFA from Columbia University’s School of the Arts. Her first full-length Collection, “Psyche’s Weathers” will be forthcoming from WordTech in 2007. She has new poems forthcoming in Caketrain, Chelsea, Good Foot, New York Quarterly, Pearl, Pilgrimage, Seneca and Seattle Review. She is currently teaching English and Creative Writing at Roanoke College. She also works with mixed media assemblage and one-of-a-kind art furniture.
