Bach's St. Mathew Passion
Rockbridge Choral Society with the W&L Chamber Singers
Our
major work for the spring will be one of the great
masterpieces of choral literature, Johann Sebastian Bach’s
St. Matthew Passion, which the Choral Society, with
(double) orchestra and soloists, will perform with the
Washington and Lee University Chamber Singers on
Saturday, March 17, 2007 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March
18, 2007 at 3 p.m. in the concert hall of the new Wilson
Center at Washington and Lee University. Because of the
scope and demands of this magnificent work, it does not
receive frequent (enough) performance. Don’t miss the
wonderful opportunity to share a live performance of what
many consider to be J. S. Bach’s finest creation.
I hope
you will make plans to share these wonderful programs with
us, and I ask you to watch carefully for announcements of
other RCS (and RYC) activities during the year.
The
Rockbridge Choral Society welcomes new members! If you (or
someone you know) might enjoy singing with us, we invite you
to join us. Rehearsals are on Monday evenings in duPont
Hall (Washington and Lee University) from 7:30 to 9:00.
We are into our practice season, but it may not be too late
for you to join with us now. If you might be interested in
singing the Bach Passion, we will be devoting some
fall rehearsals to that work. To pursue singing, or for
more information, please call Virginia Lloyd-Davies
(261-1919).
