Rockbridge Camera Club 2007
The
Rockbridge Camera Club (RCC) meetings are structured to
present guest speakers with knowledge of specific
aspects of photography such as techniques for lighting
and exposure, creativity in photography and what’s new
in equipment, books, and workshops. Beginners to
professionals using film and digital cameras bring their
photos to share in monthly critique sessions in order to
help one another take better pictures. Meetings are
held the third Tuesday of each month at 7pm. Below
is an outline of some of the events planned by the RCC.
February 20: Greer Stene, Rockbridge High
School photography instructor will discuss the value of
inherited family photos. “Manipulating, tinting and
otherwise enhancing these appropriated images was a
natural result of looking at hundreds of old photographs
and using Photoshop daily in my teaching. My emphasis
has changed over the past 10 years from black and white
film to various forms of digital media.” Ms. Stene will
be accompanied by Frances Buerkens who has traveled to
Guatemala, Mexico and China over the past two years.
She will present her digital images in the form of a
PowerPoint, and will also bring several framed
examples. Aside from her very competent, striking
images, it is important to note that Frances has spent a
great deal of time working with an older Epson archival
printer. She has perfected the process, and the result
is a collection of beautifully saturated color prints.
If there are any members who still need to be convinced
that digital photography is here to stay, viewing
Frances' images will be strongly persuasive!
March

Former Lexington resident and News-Gazette photographer
Nathan Beck will discuss his personal photography and
how and why he photographs the way he does. He will
also talk about his commercial work, which includes
fantastic photographs of dancers, taken while he worked
in New York. Today he lives and works in Staunton. A

display at the Beverly Street CoArt Gallery on Beverly
Street in Staunton through Feb. 24. Hours are Monday
through Saturday 10-5, and Friday night the gallery is
always open until 8:00pm. Sunday 1-4:00.
April 17: Rob McDonald, local photographer
and professor of English and associate dean at VMI will

camera. He will also talk about his new book
Birdhouses which
will be released in April.
